The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2019 was awarded jointly to John B. Goodenough, M. Stanley Whittingham, and Akira Yoshino “for the development of lithium-ion batteries”. The reason for the award was, “They created a rechargeable world”.
Among them, John B. Goodenough is the inventor of the anode materials of lithium cobaltate, lithium manganate and lithium iron phosphate, one of the founders of the lithium-ion batteries, known as the “Father of Lithium Battery” in the industry.
